Our office is conveniently located inside the Reno Costco, making high-quality eye care accessible and easy to fit into your day. Dr. Winkelman offers comprehensive eye exams, precise contact lens fittings, and the diagnosis and management of a wide variety of eye conditions. Whether you’re updating your prescription, trying contacts for the first time, or managing a chronic eye illness, our practice is here to meet your needs with expertise and care. You do not need a Costco membership to schedule an exam — everyone is welcome.

About The Doctor
Dr. Rick Winkelman brings over 20 years of experience in eye care to our practice. Before joining our team, he served at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), where he worked extensively in the diabetic unit. His background has given him deep expertise in diagnosing and managing complex eye conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and a wide range of other ocular diseases. Dr. Winkelman is dedicated to providing thorough, compassionate care, combining years of clinical knowledge with a personalized approach for each patient.
Insurance and Payment Options
We accept insurance!
We accept most major vision insurance plans, including VSP, Spectera, and Davis Vision. If your plan is out of network, we’re happy to provide reimbursement forms so you can submit a claim to your insurance provider. To help us bill your insurance smoothly, please bring your vision insurance information to your appointment, as it is separate from medical insurance.
For payment, we accept all major credit and debit cards, HSA/FSA cards, cash, and checks.

What To Expect
Everything you need, all in one visit
During your comprehensive eye exam, Dr. Winkelman will carefully assess your vision and eye health to determine your updated prescription. At the end of your visit, you’ll leave our office with a copy of your glasses and/or contact lens prescription in hand. For patients interested in contact lenses, most will complete a contact lens tutorial and leave the same day with trial lenses to ensure a comfortable fit. If specialty lenses are needed, we’ll place an order and notify you as soon as they arrive. We always provide a few pairs of trial lenses so you can be confident you love the lenses before committing to a yearly supply. After your visit, you can take your prescription directly to the optical center inside the Reno Costco and start shopping for your new glasses right away.
